Final Round - Bangkok Open (8/8 baru boleh manang oh.. Jang Budin last two holes collapse)

Final day was played at Royal Golf Club near to Suvaranbhumi Airport.
At that stage bilateral competition are as follows

Vs. Shahbudin One win, one lost and one Draw...
Vs. Saudi Trained Three wins...

But looking at the course... macam nda besimbah air... green, fairway karing
Saw some workers spraying water all round the course..

Front 9
Pressure was on Jang Manan to maintain his third day good score at Lam Lukka.
"Last day ni Jang.. I dont want to be paymaster. Membeli set baru ku karang next week di Singapore. Ketahuan ia karang" Saudi di Dahran based Bruneian.

Pressure was quite evident over the first few holes. Jang Budin BIRDIE AGAIN on the short par 13th hole (our 4th hole as we started on the B9) Where his ball settled about 10ft from the pin. My ball was "mata lembu" in the bunker while Manan was on the apron. As per script... Budin birdied.. i three putted while Manan bogeyed... two short swing OHHH...

I managed to regain the momentum with a par on the next while Budin put his approach in the water and ended up with a six. on the other par 3 17th. Against wind, everybody took out driver for the 220yd distance. Mine was pin high but right, Budin bolanya mandi kolam.. and Manan was short.. I managed to chip it close and got my par while Budin had a double and Manan bogey.. another 2 shot swing...

"Nda tahan ni Jang.. baik chipping mu" said Jang Manan

Manan was diam-diam tapioca playing solid albeit some disaster holes. F9 scores Bahreen 40, Shahbudin 46 & Manan 50

Back 9
Kuat angin oh.. playing against wind most of the time compared to the front nine. All of us struggle. I started badly with a double and then triple. While Shahbudin and Manan capitalize on my careless mistakes to close the gap. game was still close as we approach the par 3 7th (16th) pressure psal lawan angin.. I put my ball in the water to the left. Shahbudin was OK but short. Manan was on the apron.

Then it went worst for me as i three putted for a six and manan had his par while Budin had a bogey. Abis lah... i was quite disappointed.. schoolboy mistake lah..
Anyway, I regroup for the last two holes a par 5 and tricky par 4 last hole.

Drive went right and then I found left bunker on the left side... main safe pun masuk bunker... anyway... i took out my seven iron from about 160yds and prayed... ball landed and settled about 8ft from the pin... for the last three days i have not had a birdie... this was my chance.. Budin and manan had trouble with five on..

Guidance from caddy.. manan made a near impossible down hill fast putt from 22ft.. for bogey... and Shahbudin also the escaped with a one putt for his bogey..

I nailed the bird for a two shot swing... then came the 18th...

i barely remembered this hole from last year playing with Manan.
"Interesting hole ni jang" said Shahbudin... which proved masin nya orang brunei

Manan and myself was OK and was two on the apron. Shahbudin had trouble on the right and ended up with four on... I can smell blood...

Budin four putted to mark a remarkable turn around while Manan had a deserving par... From losing to winning oh... in the end it was a very good golf tour... not a minute wasted... four rounds over four days... macam golf pro tu..

Bangkok Open - Third day: Moving day… Jang Shahbudin birdie lagi ohh… Jang Manan’s game definitely is back….

Course: Lam Lukka
Tee off: 11.30am

Lam Lukka is one of the best courses in Bangkok.. similar standard to Empire in Brunei.. Greens are fast… But tight fairways and water in play for 50% of the holes…Banyak tok nam jang… Recipe for a good score…

When we arrive after an hour’s drive from the hotel… we saw a large group of people around the golf course…

“Macam ada tournament” said Jang Budin…

there was one… Flags flew around the course

“FIFTH KING’S CUP” with some 10 teams competing….

Looks like gonna be a slow day…

Front nine: Saudi trained started brightly with three pars in the first four holes… “Only two over ohh..” I said to Jang Manan…

“Au… nda tahan Jang jadi ATM hari-hari” Manan’s game is really back… he had FIVE PARS on the front nine… the kind of form that made him an ASCOPE player many-many times…

Budin had a disastrous first four holes with a score of six over… and ended up with a 46

Yours truly, had five consecutive pars but some sloppy approach play on 8th and 9th ended up with bogeys of both holes which could have easily been pars.. I had a 40 on the outward nine.. my best so far… and then came the back nine…

Back nine: Jang Budin was seriously in trouble at the turn… he was down by six to me and seven(?) over Jang Manan… and true indeed he summoned all his skill and concentration with birdies on the 10th and 12th sandwiched with a par on the 11th… TWO UNDER GROSS OHH… AFTER THREE HOLES…. Hot streak kali ah… Three days birdie oh….averaging two birdies a day…

Ada tu karang….

Manan was ok with three consecutive bogeys confirming his game is “back”

Looking at Shahbudin’s resurgence… I had to do something… I had to respond….

I bogeyed the first two and then pared holes 12th and 13th… At the half way stage on the inward nine… I was on a roll… short game… putting… Macam Golf channel 815…. Ended up with SEVEN PARS IN A ROW… WITH 38 GROSS..
78 overall

Shahbudin.. could not capitalize on his super hot start with a costly double on the par 3 15th.. this was followed with a par, bogey and triple at the last but still a respectable 42..

Jang Manan was consistent.. but despite a double and triple on 16th and 17th his score was still good enough to beat Shahbudin for an overall 94.. a great score considering his first day’s performance…

In the end abis dorang dua… Cream always rises to the top….

Bangkok Day Two – Honours even…. But Jang Manan’s game is coming back

Today we are playing where all three of us have not played yet. Bangpakong Riverside Club is just under an hour from Bangkok and comes with a good recommendation from Khun Andy… Well lets see…

Upon arrival, we drop our bags just off the entrance to the club house… At the clubhouse we were met with a cool drink…

“ Aduh.. manis Jang” cakap Jang Manan….

It was too sweet for all our taste…

Registration was efficient and…

Standing on the first tee inside the mind of both Manan and myself was to avenge the defeat to Jang Budin on the first day…

Front Nine: Jang Budin started brightly with a score of even par over the first three holes.. WITH ANOTHER BIRDIE ON #3 Par 5…Atu kan bolanya simpang siur… he had a very good approach to the green with just about seven feet from the hole…. And when his putt went in… I said to myself… Not again!!!..

“Eh jang… two days in a row birdie???… Au jangan karang ASCOPE game nda deliver” I said to him…

In the end.. a triple bogey on the par 5 #9 hole left him with a 46… Manan struggled with a 53… but ada sikit-sikit keluar skill that once made him di segani ramai…. I was OK… but too many bogeys led to a 42…

Back Nine: Jang Manan was OK in the first few holes… But had another triple on the 12th… He managed to recover to be in contention and playing better than his outward nine…

Jang Budin started with two pars…

“Two pars in a row oh..” both Manan and myself said to Budin… most impressive was the long par 4 11th… 420 yds against WIND…

“Mesti bawah marah jang” said the former oil trader… His drive flew about 30yds in front of my ball which left him with only a 5 iron to the green…

My ball was in the centre but I had about 220 yds with wind against… paksa keluar 3W jang… I had a solid hit and left me with an uphill from about 20 feet… I almost birdied this hole… ball just went left upon coming near to the hole….

Upon the 18th.. both Manan and myself was up by one stroke to Jang Budin… All our drives and second shot was OK… then came the approach…
“kuat Angin ani Jang” said Jang Manan… his approach was straight but 10 yds short of the green… Sensing the win over Budin… I tried to use the wind to get my ball into birdie position… I intended to put my ball to the right just avoiding the greenside bunker… I had a crisp shot and then waited for the wind the push my ball left… then.. Alamak… ball went straight in the bunker… Budin pulled his approach was still OK at the back of the green..

However, both Manan and myself could not get up and down for par… Budin’s putt was short by 3ft… After sinking his putt to put all in a draw… Budin fist pump.. and looked at the sky.. sensing he had managed to do a Houdini act… Bahreen 43… Manan 50…. Shahbudin 44….

Sawadee Kap… Landed ahead of schedule 13.30hrs at Suvaranabhumi Airport Bangkok… Notwithstanding the “duff” landing made by Captain Simon Newn…. Who told us “Five straight days of golf” and was very tired….

Anyway, immigration and baggage was swift and we headed towards our first course.. The Nick Faldo designed Summit Windmill GC just 20 minutes from the airport…

There was a slight mix up with clubhouse was under renovation.. But soon we were all on the first tee...

Front Nine..
Banyak air ohh... Jang played well with gross of 45 same.. I struggled a little bit also with the same score... Well done Jang Budin with 2 birdies..
"Outside country I deliver" he said.. clearly reviving memories of ASCOPE past..

Jang Manan using Shahbudin's club.. did OK with a 50.

Back Nine...
Lain sikit main golf malam ani... Due to my bad front 9... had to recover... started well with Crossing 11th hole.. hole where G2 nda ikut cakap caddy... lapas tu air... 200yds... in the end.. damage was done on the F9 and could not recover.. played with 41.. Shahbudin another birdie therefore in total 3 birdies.. baik deliver mun ada ASCOPE lagi... Manan started badly with quad bogey but finished strongly with a par on the 18th par 5..

Scene setting: G2 started mind games early.. pukul 9am kana talipaun... "nda cukup tu Jang 2/2" i forgot the rest.. something about old story of 2008 lah.. tua lah.. muda lah... kuatlah.. pensioner lah.. But yours truly replied back using G2 own principle... kalau kan naik one by one...MONEY CHANGE hands etc..

Pukul 11am kana talipun lagi.. andangnya kah org tuha ani bibiran? balik2 menalipaun nda paham bahas malayu kali... abis mind games kana tolak...

Front 9: Was in command with gross score of 43.. Shahbudin & Pro 50 G2 had a 47.
Kes ketaguran #1 on hole #6... G2 was playing well "only 4 over ohh" ... ended up with double on that hole... Kes kataguran #2... hole #7...G2 used a different Driver... on first tee using blue shafted driver ani green tia... "Eh lain tia warna driver ani.. tadi biru ani hijau" tarus duff tee off.. and all of us burst out laughing... for .. i thought orang with many experiences main luar dan dalam negara.. he would be immune from such pyschological mind games... rupanya inda..

Back 9: Started badly with triple bogey on 10th.. kes ketulahan? maybe.. did not recover from that...By the 15th.. I was no longer a threat to G2... my chipping and approach was down.. result of 2 weeks nda main.. by the 16th I was staring at two bilateral defeats on with G2 & Shahbudin.. Pro was also lurking to capitalise on any mistake i made... sekali.. there we were teeing off on 17th...

G2.. TEE OF ok... then Shahbudin teed off.. initial ball macam OB.. so we asked him for prov ball...mine... ok... pro pun ok... Shahbudin then took two more prov balls.. and from defeat i was looking at triumph.. but alas.. his first ball ada "Ceramic kuning" all our 2nd shots were ok...
THEN CAME THE APPROACH...

G2 was OK but short..
MINE landed on green 20ft pass hole.. uphil putt...
Pro.. masuk air... so from that.. cemented my win over him
Shahbudin.. no pressure from 90m.. his approach went left and macam masuk air...
As we move to the green confirmed.. masuk air... YESSS...
Result: G2 PAR, ME PAR, SHAHBUDIN TBOGEY, Pro 8 jua i think...

On 18th.. G2 / Myself was OK... kna kalahkn oleh pensioner.. no prob... sekali sekala.. bagi chance org pensioner...
Budin was in the bunker.. Pro was left under coconut tree..
My approach went right in the rough... G2 pakai 3W... FROM 150M.. ketahuan ia.. nda lagi kuat.. But his ball was only 8ft from the pin.. budin/pro recovered for 3 on while I had a short putt for my par.. but unfortunately misread the line.. well from 90% confirm defeat to a draw and almost win.. im happy...
Notables: G Zairin played well in the morning with 91 while Yunos Abdullah scored a solid 78 gross...

Hj Sam Monday Massacre in Miri!!!!!

Flight - G2, Gsam, Gbudin & Fadil ( single hcp - used to be ! )

Mental game started on the 1st t-box with Gbudin gertak G2 with $100 on the board...orang tua gegar, takut reduce to M$30.

1st nine story: Ada orang rasa regrets main black tee ( jauh kali ah ) 2nd shot masih pakai kayu, terpaksa pyscho sendiri " kalau dulu " untuk bagi kuat t-off. Hole 9 which separate the men from the boys, only Gbudin berani cross but 2nd shot to the green duff shot only managed to move the ball 1 inch saja, yang lain senyum saja lah ( alhamdullilah! ).

2nd nine story: Tension building up, running out of holes especially when Gbudin with 2 pars in a row on # 15 & #16. By hole #17, Fadil and G2 no longer a threat and all comes down to hole #18, G budin t-off went left under a tree, tried to ask for free relief but denied, grown up tree kali ah...anyway you don't ask you don't get...good try! All three players par the last hole except Gbudin double bogie...menang by one stroke, cukup.

Final score:
G2-98,GBudin-98, Gsam-94, Fadil-100 ( Individal winner G sam - cuci bersih semua....macam "Breeze baru" )

Pool winner - G budin.( Lunch sponsor ) Ada orang inda mau rugi,order 2Xorange juice, smoke salmon, fish fillets and teh tarik, kenangan lama nya dulu ia makan sup saja.

Jurubayar agung Zairin with 96, Sam got very inspiring boost from Thursday play with Pro carding impressive Pars on first 5 holes ending with 85. I manage to recover in back nine with 41 to end 90 & nearly caught up with Sam until he regrouped with Par Par ending on 17 & 18 (so I lost by 2 stroke to him) But pool winner is me & more improtantly DRM invitational category champion is me with Sam as Runner up. (net 71 & 73)
