Course Preview

BMMJ golfers Jang Manan, Jang Shahbudin, Khun Amir and myself will take a trip to Northern Thailand to the city of Chiangmai in the final week of February for a bit of R & R. One of the courses we are going to play will be the Alpine GC Chiangmai. Base on the pictures.. hmm cant wait to get there...

Actually, the course was originally the Chiangmai Lamphun GC where I played here in 2006. At the time, the course was on its last legs and in dire need of attention. I guess it was taken over by the Alpine group and transformed into this hidden jewel of Northern Thailand...

Tough luck Faiz... Maybe next year

As you may have learn, Faiz did not succeed in getting his tour card for this year. My view is that it maybe a blessing in disguise for him. I would have thought that he would be building up his experience by playing on the Mercedes Benz ASEAN tour first before going for the big time.

The MBA tour is less known in Brunei but actually was formed as a second tier to help aspiring pros like Faiz to cut their teeth before joining the AT. The purse is much lower (US$50,000) but i am sure the competition is as tough as the AT.

The other option would be the professional tournaments in and around ASEAN countries in Malaysia, Thailand & Indonesia. They would have PGA championships that are open to pros only and again would be a good platform where Faiz can start his pro career.

It also shows us how tough the competition is on the AT to even earn your card, let alone being in contention for Sunday. Anyway, best of luck for him in future events.

QUIET please.....

Empire 30th Dec 09 - Winning streak continues with 79 gross

Belated news headline

1. Bahreen makes it three whitewashes in a row
2. Hj Shahbudin and Hj Manan parless until #16
3. Hj Shahbudin ball hit buggy
4. Hj Amir collapse and jadi Jurubayar Agung
5. Collect end of year gifts
6. Quote of the week
7. Shot of the day

1. Sensitive headline this...Better not say too much but basically undefeated for three games... 2010 here I come...

2. Actually the three of them Hj Amir, Shahbudin and Manan did not record a single par on the front nine. But much respect for Hj Amir by making pars and bogeys on the first seven holes of the back nine. It wasnt until the par 3 #16 that Jang Manan and Shahbudin made their pars (atu pun all three of them miss birdie from 5ft - see picture)

3. Unfortunately Jang Budin's drive on the #6 left with a "snooker" shot ( see picture) he sliced his shot and hit my cart... hehe

4. Related to the earlier headline, Hj Amir was on his way to collect some dosh of Hj Manan and Shahbudin and all seem to plan after finding his form on the back nine until the #17.. His approach fell short and into the thick rough on the left slope. ten strokes later he walked off the green thinking "What the hell just happen"

Basically, you need a JCB to get your ball out of that rough.. BE WARNED FELLOW BMMJ golfers... i sense Hj Amir will not send Jack Nicklaus a card this new year..hehe
ada orang happy.... Jang Shahbudin was already thinking of becoming ATM...

5. Basically this being my last game of 2009, it was nice to see off with a 79 gross and some red notes... ah.. the joys of life...

6. As said by Hj Amir "Not everyday Sunday Kap" referring to my tee off that went to the jungle on #4...thinking I could end up with a DB 6 or worse.. I salvaged a bogey while others had DB & TB... hehe

7. Again had trouble from the tee on #8 that went right and into water. Took out the seven iron and ball settled 5ft from the pin. Saved par much to the astonishment (and some few choice words) from the others.. What can I say?

Secret to extra long drive

According to Hj Amir and confirmed by Hj Manan, hasil tanaman ini hendaklah di rendam dengan air lalu di masak. Sesudah itu hendaklah di minum. Selamat mencuba.

DRM End of year BOTB Tournament (Belated) - Whitewash continues

Happy new year everybody.. Hope your reading this in good health and enjoyed the holiday break. More of this later whilst I like to talk about the DRM tournament first

DRM Tournament - 19th Dec 2009 - RBGCC

BMMJ members Hj Samuil, Hj Amir, Hj Zairin and meself participated the 1st leg of the BOTB - Battle of the Bridge of the DRM group. As we arrived early, my flight contained Hj Sam and Hj Zairin while Hj Amir played in a different flight.

Hj Samuil:
Was his off day and was out of contention by the 14th hole. An unbelievable 11 on the par 3 #16 basically sums up his day (baik lagi aku tu Jang di Khao Kheow). Lost to me and Zairin but won against Hj Amir. Gross 110

Hj Md Zairin:
Zairin's front nine was a blinder and I was in trouble at the turn. Par's bogeys littered his front nine and a par for him on the difficult #9 par 4 underlined his credentials to become the DRM champion. I was trying to break his game but for some reason it remained steady. By the #15 hole, I was EIGHT strokes down with four holes to play... Perhaps this was his day... and so i thought... By the time we left the 15th green the gap reduced to seven.

Still I thought there was no way back. Then came the #16 where Jang Sam had an 11. Without any pressure, Jang Zairin's tee shot went into the stream... and his 3rd... He was six on the green and then two putted for an eight.. While I had a par.. FIVE SHOT SWING.... I can see daylight... Gap was now reduced to two strokes with two holes to go... Anybody's game... Unfortunately my tee shot on the 17th went right and in the jungle... Zairin went left and into the jungle too probably was under pressure for preserving his lead.. i ended up with a DB 6 while he had a TB seven... I sense he was cracking up... gap was now just one

Using one of Hj Dua's old trick i told Hj Zairin on the 18th tee that if he XXX score and I parred.. I would win the game.. He duly sent his ball into the jungle... It was not game over just yet... A routine bogey against his triple was very my highlight of the day... I do share some sympathy with him.. From winning to losing... But that's golf... hehe Gross of 101 (i think)

Hj Amir
Knowing his game in Jerudong, I thought he would play well and sambaleh us all.. in fact he had a nightmare 112... heheh thanks kap...

Overall, not even a sliced open shoe should could stop me from my winning streak for the second time in a week... I can see crisp red notes... hehe
