June Order of Merit - Top 10

No Name Points Up /Down
1 Hj Shahbudin Musa 2725
2 Bahreen Hamzah 2700
3 Mohd Yunos Abdullah 1825
4 Hj Abd Rahim Matusin 1650
5 Hj Amir Osman 1525
6 Hj Samuil Mohidin 1400
6 Hj Md Zairin Abdullah 1400 up one
8 Hj Md Yusof Taufik 575
9 Yusof Hj Johan 525 Down one
10 Hj Dua Jais 500

Not much movement in terms of position but Hj Zairin's good form over the last four tournaments have led him to draw level with Hj Samuil on points. Crucially, four players are now snapping at the heels of third placed Mohd Yunos.

Potentially, I would expect some of these players to make a move before the tour takes a break for the fasting month of Ramadhan scheduled to start on the 11th of August. There will be at least two more tournaments for them get some points on the board and haul back runaway leaders Hj Shahbudin & Bahreen.

June Medal - Tough day at the office but we all had a fun

News Headline
1. RBGCC 1 BMMJ & GUESTS O
2. Bahreen wins June medal
3. Hj Kamaludin records an "NR" & Hj Rahim kana pyscho
4. Kisah-kisah Hj Samuil
5. There was no scandal occured at #14
6. Hj Shahbudin lead is now only 25pts
7. ATM for June
8. Quote of the week

1. It was indeed a tough day at the office for the June medal at RBGCC Jerudong. BMMJ players and their guests endured a difficult day at the course where the average nett score was around 85. Looking at the cards, one player recorded a "double par" score of 10 at the #7 par 5, NR on #15 & par less round.

2. Bahreen clinched the honours for June with a score of 85 gross / 76 nett beating Hj Shahbudin OCB while "Anak Inchan" Hj Mohd Zairin continued his fine form with a 77 nett. In the guests category, Abdullah Nawi came tops followed by Kenneth Lim and Gubenor Bandung Hj Sufri. In the novelty prizes, NTP on #3 was won by Hj Sabtu while Longest drive on #17 was won by Abdullah Nawi.

3. ASCOPE hopeful Hj Kamaludin Ali could not beat the notorius Island fairway hole #15 par 4. Its well documented that this hole has been the decider of many battles in the pass where games have been won and lost. Meanwhile... Hj Rahim was playing well in his front nine (10-18) with a 46 easily eclipsing Hj Amir 49. However, on the back nine the foreign trained Hj Amir released pyscho warfare onto Hj Rahim in which he was unable to shut out and subsequently collapse... Baiktah belajar dari Hj Dua tu.. cara2 menutup comment orang...

4a. On the par 3 #13, Bahreen asked Capt Hj Ibrahim what club did he used after his shot just came short of the green. Hj Ibrahim replied "9 iron" in which Hj Samuil ikut menampok.. "Awu, jangan liat badan saja.. Bukan macam orang lain badan basar"... with that statement Hj Samuil then hit his tee shot but masuk gaung... hehe Hj Ibrahim then said "Iatah tu ketulahan orang tua2 nya. Kalau kan bekurapak, ambat dulu baru becakap"

4b. Hj Samuil like most of us that day would probably be better staying in bed. To cut a long story short, when Bahreen birdied the short par 4 #12 while Hj Samuil had a double bogey.. "Well done, tapi dalam hati nda happy" acknowledging he could be ATM today.

4c. After a terrible few weeks, Hj Samuil announce during lunch that he will enter golf REHAB. Not sure air terjun or wasai mana kan dituju kan dijadikan tempat betarak. But wish him the best.

5. Hj Ibrahim sliced his ball on #14 and just settled near the edge of the pond. What happen next did not happen. Bahreen did not help Hj Ibrahim to retrieve his ball back by holding hands macam orang becinta... Kana tagur Hj Sam... oooiii bahapa tu.. kana tapipaun karang orang Syariah... kalau ada camera ku gambar ni.. luckily for me or Hj Ibrahim, my camera was tuck nciely in the bag.

6. Hj Shahbudin keeps hold of the leader board by a mere 25pts after Bahreen won on OCB shaving off the 225pts lead. With his win, Bahreen's handicap is now reduced to 8 & unless no other player is making a move soon looks like this will be a two horse race between them as the gap with Yunos who lays third is almost 1000pts.

7. Jurubayar Agung was between Hj Samuil or Hj Yusof.. So between them, they gave Santa claus a good holiday...

8. "June is not my month" Hj Samuil - justifying his decision to enter REHAB

The PING ANSER IRONS

Review by Tourspecgolf.com

Ping Japan is proud to introduce its all new Anser Forged iron for the Japanese market. The 2010 conforming Anser Forged Iron is a semi cavity back for the better golfer designed to provide the soft feel of a forged blade. Forged from soft 8620 Carbon Steel and paired with a hollow cavity design with tungsten nickel sole, the new Anser Forged provides premium soft feel, shock absorption and performance.

The top view provides sharper lines than the i15 but similar overall size. While the Anser Forged is designed to provide a mid trajectory ball flight, getting the ball in the air is very easy with the tungsten weighted sole and low center of gravity. Ping has touted the Anser Forged as fitting between the S57 and i15 in terms of its model line.

Ping designed the Anser Forged with the Japanese market in mind, creating an iron with sharper looks and a progressive offset design (see offset numbers in chart below) with feel, control and ease of use in a balanced package. The progressive offset puts more offset in the longer irons making them easier to hit and more distance oriented. As the irons get shorter the offet decreases allowing the short irons to focus on control and attacking the pin with the acccuracy of a blade. Slightly more bounce provides more forgiveness and prevents digging on lush courses (typically found in Japan)

The CTP or Custom Tuning Port provides additional shock absorption creating a soft sense at impact Ping likens to a muscle back. The CTP also functions as a back weight creating a thicker and wider sweetspot for that pure feel.

New lady in my life..

It is with mixed feelings that I am annoucing the retirement of my beloved CL 708 Honma forged Professional +2 degrees irons after having been in my bag since 1989. The clubs have helped me reduced my handicap from 24 in 1989 to my current BMMJ handicap of 9. She has won me numerous events both in Brunei and abroad since then not to mention countless top 10 finishes and NTP prizes. So I am making this decision with a heavy heart.

Actually, I have tried to replace her since 2006 first with the Taylor Made TP forged irons, Ben Hogan APEX forged irons and Mizuno MP 67 blades. But none could fill the position and burden of expectation. Finally, after trying them at an indoor range golf shop in Hong Kong last week, I made a decison to invest in a set of Ping Anser Forged Irons meant only for the Japanese Market.

I strongly believe these irons feel & behave just like the Honma that I am so use to. More of this later. So it was a bit of a risk when I took them out for the first time on the course during the Players Championship and came out with an 83 gross. Not bad huh? Had I not double bogey the 9th at Eastwood (our 18th) she could have won me my second major of the year.. ah well that's golf... Think this will be the start of a new and productive beginning....

Hj Abd Rahim - The Players Champion

Headlines
1. Hj Rahim beats the field & the rain to become the Players champion
2. Chaotic start at Eastwood
3. Abd Latif tinggal passport
4. Zairin admits defeat on #14 to Yunos
5. Hj Shahbudin beats the bunker
6. Hj Shahbudin OOM lead cut to half

1. Hj Abd Rahim recorded a sublime 94 gross and 72 nett to win the players champion at a rain soaked Eastwood valley GC. Hj Rahim has been playing well since April and this win could be the first of more titles to come. As a result, he has moved to the number four position on the merit board.

2. Slight chaos at the start due to absence of starter and almost free for all. There were at least 30 other golfers who were also trying to start with no indication who is starting where and at what time. Think Eastwood GC could have done a better job (Hint please learn system at Tanah Merah GC Singapore)

3. Plan was for Hj Shahbudin and Latif to car pool with me to Miri but regretably he left his passport at home while he almost reach Hj Shahbudin's house in Penanjong. Sia-sia pun saja but appreciation and thanks for sponsoring some prizes.

4. I was in the same flight as Yunos, Hj Shahbudin and Hj Zairin and for about 13 holes, the rest of us knew that Yunos was going to win this tournament or at least finish strongly. He started the back nine with four consecutive pars and I thought hmm... abis kana mamam ni... so sensing that there was no way back to win against Yunos, Hj Zairin raised the white flag and declared "Saudara" to Yunos.. thus declaring null & void their bilateral arrangement...orang nada kepentingan pun ikut marah.. But then Yunos preceeded with a double bogey and a quadruple bogey nine on the index 1 #6 hole... This was when it rained down quite heavily for a while..So I guess Yunos need to undergo wet golf training. But the most important point is never give up, as you never know whats going to happen over the last few holes.

5. I understand a lot of the players went in the bunker in the tournament. However, quote of the week must go to Hj Shahbudin as his ball laid deep in the island green par 3 bunker #13.. with a mighty swing and followed by "Ha.. ketahuan ia" his ball popped out and landed safely just off the green.

6. Bahreen's third position helped him narrow the gap with OOM leader Hj Shahbudin to only 225 pts down 200pts compared to the previous tournament. By finishing fifth, Hj Shahbudin's reign at the top of the table now stretches to end of May. Ada tu karang... Big movers of the week were Hj Abd Rahim now up to fourth and Hj Amir in fifth replacing Hj Samuil and Hj Zairin. In addition, the gap between 3rd and 5th has narrowed with only 300 pts separating them and Yunos holding a wafer thin 175pts advantage over Hj Rahim.
