The PING ANSER IRONS

Review by Tourspecgolf.com

Ping Japan is proud to introduce its all new Anser Forged iron for the Japanese market. The 2010 conforming Anser Forged Iron is a semi cavity back for the better golfer designed to provide the soft feel of a forged blade. Forged from soft 8620 Carbon Steel and paired with a hollow cavity design with tungsten nickel sole, the new Anser Forged provides premium soft feel, shock absorption and performance.

The top view provides sharper lines than the i15 but similar overall size. While the Anser Forged is designed to provide a mid trajectory ball flight, getting the ball in the air is very easy with the tungsten weighted sole and low center of gravity. Ping has touted the Anser Forged as fitting between the S57 and i15 in terms of its model line.

Ping designed the Anser Forged with the Japanese market in mind, creating an iron with sharper looks and a progressive offset design (see offset numbers in chart below) with feel, control and ease of use in a balanced package. The progressive offset puts more offset in the longer irons making them easier to hit and more distance oriented. As the irons get shorter the offet decreases allowing the short irons to focus on control and attacking the pin with the acccuracy of a blade. Slightly more bounce provides more forgiveness and prevents digging on lush courses (typically found in Japan)

The CTP or Custom Tuning Port provides additional shock absorption creating a soft sense at impact Ping likens to a muscle back. The CTP also functions as a back weight creating a thicker and wider sweetspot for that pure feel.
